CONTRACTOR OF THE MONTH

Bercel Builders has a history of quality

Contractor of the Month Jack Bercel is recognized by the Fountain Hills Association of Licensed Contractors.
Bercel Builders and Fountain Hills have a long history together.

The bulletin board in Bercel’s Laser Drive office, is covered with letters from clients praising the company for its quality homes and remodel work.

Jack Bercel says he has never had a “punch list” on a custom home, a list of things that still need to be done at closing.

“We give the homeowner a key only when everything is done,” he says. “Of course, we’ll come back if something is needed, but we make sure our homes don’t even have a crumb of dust in the drawers.”

Bercel Builders, Inc. (www.bercelbuildersinc.com), was named Contractor of the Month by the Fountain Hills Association of Licensed Contractors.

Bercel was a founding member of the FHALC in 1981-82, and served a term as its president. Bercel Builders holds both residential and commercial licenses. Bercel Builders is well-known for its quality construction practices.

“I know all our subcontractors personally,” Bercel said. “I tell them, ‘I don’t want extra special; I want it done right.’ We make sure the homeowner gets the value he paid for, no questions asked.”

The firm’s subcontractors understand Bercel’s stringent quality standards.

“We spend more time on-site than anyone in the Valley, and we don’t cover up or hide problems,” Bercel added. “I know what’s behind the drywall, how it was done, and why it was done that way.”

Bercel Builders is a family business. Jack is president, and his wife of 52 years, Roseanna, is the office manager. Son John is chief operating officer, and John’s wife, Sandy, is the firm’s accountant. Jack’s other son, Mark, is construction manager.

“My sons and I started the company in Fountain Hills 28 years ago as partners, dividing everything up in thirds. It’s still that way today,” Bercel says.

Jack moved to Arizona from Michigan in 1980 due to Roseanna’s asthma.

“We looked all over before settling on Fountain Hills,” he said. “It’s nestled among the mountains, the park and the reservations. Once you come off of Shea Blvd., you leave the rat-race behind. This is paradise.”

The Fountain Hills Association of Licensed Contractors is a not-for-profit trade association promoting better contracting practices.

Association officers are: Al Donaldson of Double D Construction, president; Roger Rambo of Rambo & Son Landscaping, vice president; Marc Williams of Bobcat Wizards, immediate past president; Alice Blackerby of Fountain Hills Design Center, secretary-treasurer.
